Lord Murugan, Swamimalai, Virtual Divine

Swamimalai(Tiruverakam) is a sylvan village, it is a hill temple dedicated to Lord Subramanya near the temple town of five kilometers west of Kumbakonam in the Cauvery delta in Tamil Nadu. it is located at a distance eight kilometers from Kumbakonam in Tanjore District on the northern banks of the river Cauvery. The Lord here presents Himself as Gurunatha Who taught the essence of Pranava to His Father, Siva ('Swami') and thus became Swaminatha. Arunagirinathar obtained darshan of the divine lotus feet of Lord Muruga here. It is believed that the sixty steps of the temple ascending to the sanctum sanctorum represent the sixty months of the ancient Tamil calendar.

God : Swaminathan. The stala vriksham : Nellimaram(This tree is said to be a manifestation of Bhudevi. The theerthams : Vajra theertham, Saravana Theerhtam, Netra Pushkarini and Kumaratturai (Kaveri). This is the only place where Subramanya is seen only with Devayani.

The important festivals conducted in the temple are:

Monthly Kirutikai festival, Temple Car festival in April, Visakam festival in May, Navaratri festival in May, Skanda Shashti festival in October, Tiru Karthikai festival in Nov/December, Taippucam festival in January, and Pankuni Uttiram festival in March.
