The Subramanya shrine at Tiruchendur is situated by the seashore temple. Tiruchendur means a holy and a prosperous, victorious town. Arulmigu Subramanya Swami at Tiruchendur has a unique significance as the culmination of the concept of Muruga. It has been venerated by the Tamil Sangam Period work Tirumurugatruppadai and by 83 Tiruppugazh hymns of Arunagirinathar. It is one of the most visited shrines in Tamilnadu, There are several literary works singing the glory of Tiruchendur. The Sangam works Puranaanooru and Akanaanooru speak of Tiruchendur as Senthil and Alaivaai respectively. Illango Adigal refers to Tiruchendur, Tiruchengode and Swamimalai as abodes of Skanda in his work Silappadikaaram. Murugan vanquished the demonic forces led by Soorapadma at Tiruchendur. The Lord's heroic fight with Soora is enacted with religious fervor here during the annual Skanda Sashti festival shortly after Deepavali (October-November), which draws half a million devotees on the sixth day alone

God : Presiding deity - Lord Subramanya also called Senthilnathan or Senthilandavar. Goddess : Ambal - Valli, Devasena. Holy waters - Bathing ghat consists of nine tanks. Kanda Sashti festival is celebrated during the Tamil month of Aipasi-Tula. According to the sthalapuranam, Lord Subramanya took the peacock as his vehicle and the spear(vel) as his weapon to attack Soorapadman(Arakkan). Jagadguru Adi Sanakara (8th century) visited the Tiruchendur temple and offered prayers. The famous hymn Sri Subramanya Bhujangam and Kandar Kali Venpa were composed at this sacred spot.

Location :

Tiruchendur is situated in the Tuticorin District of Tamil Nadu. The temple is located within 40 km from Tuticorin, 60 km from Tirunelveli and 80 km from Kanyakumari. There are buses from Chennai, Puducherry, Coimbatore, Thiruppoor, Bangalore, Palani, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Kanyakumari, Madurai, Rameswaram, Virudhunagar, Kovilpatty, Rajapalayam, Srivilliputhur, Erode, Dindigul, Bodinaikanur and Tiruchirapalli to this temple. Railway Stations:

The Southern Railway operates train services from Tirunelveli to Tiruchendur at 6.50 A.M., 9.20 A.M., 1.20 P.M. and 5.50 P.M. Similarly trains run from Tiruchendur to Tirunelveli at 6.50 A.M., 1.20 P.M. and 5.50 P.M. Chendur express operates five days a week to chennai (Refer railway time table)
